Abstract
This study was made on Air Pollution under two points of view, from June 1st to the end of 1973.
One was the anual grasp of the present condition of Air Pollution in Seoul City, and the other was the comoparative determination of the activation factor of Lead dioxide by kind in evaluation of the Sulfur oxides concentration by PbO_(2) cylinder method.
Seould City was divided into 5 areas in the same way of the past years; i.e, the industirial, the commercial, the downtown, the residential and the park area. Nine sampling sties were selected form the 5 areas. At the same time, three kinds of Lead dioxide made in Japan (B, C, and D) were compared with Standard PbO_(2) (A; for use in determination of Sulphur in the atomosphere, made in British Standards Institution, purity 99% up), and monthly measuring was conducted at every sampling site.
And some significant results were obtained.
RESULTS:
(A)
1. The total amount of Dustfalls was 28.57 ton/km^(2)/month, ranging from 5.65 to 49.03. And an obviously higher concentration was shown in commercial area than the other areas.
2. The total mean value of Sulfur oxides was 1.24 mgSO_(3)/day/100cm^(2)PbO_(2) (range 0.35-3.12) and it showed a tendency to decreasing since 1971. The means by area were 2.03 in industrial, 1.37 in residential, 1.21 in commercial, 0.93 in downtown and 0.38 in park area. The highest concentration by sampling site was 2.11 in SangSu-Dong and the next was 2.08 in DangSan-Dong.
3. The mean value of Sulfur dioxide was o.038 ppm and the temporary maximum concentration was 0.78 in SangSu-Dong.
Generally, the concentrations of Sulfur dioxide by Wilkins¢¥ convertion method from SO_(3) showed about 30% higher than those by Autoanalyzer.
4. The mean concentration of Carbon monoxide was 6.26ppm (range 0.1-28.6), and outstandingly the higher concentration was shown in downtown (11.0) and commercial area (10.1) than the others.
5. The mean concentration of NO+NO_(2) was 0.115 ppm and that of NO_(2) was 0.02 ppm.
6. Generally, the hourly variation of Cabon monoxide showed the highest concentration between 9 and 10 o¢¥clock A.M.
The concentration of Nitrogen oxides in the daytime was distinctly higher than that in the night time.
7. The mean value of Noise level was 68.1dB, ranging from 52 to 86dB. And a tendency to decreasing was shown since 1970.
(B)
In comparative experiments to determine the activation degree of 3 kinds of Lead dioxide (B, C and D), The obtained correction factor of B reagent was 1.09, 1.16 in C and 1.30 in D against Standard PbO_(2) (A).
Therefore, It should be in need of standarization or clear statement about the reagents for use, in determination sulfur oxides by PbO_(2) cylinder method.
